Paediatric First Aid - Next course: 14th - 15th May 2012

First Aid Awards - Full Qualification


This course has been developed for those who are working with children and infants. It will be of particular interest to teachers, child minders, crèche assistants, playgroup personnel and anyone else who has a responsibility for their welfare whilst in your care. It is ideal for individuals who are responsible for children and infants, who wish to gain a nationally accredited Level 2 Award. This two-day course satisfies the guidelines and criteria as laid down by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and OFSTED. In order to obtain this qualification, you must attend both days and complete the two units of accreditation.


DURATION


A minimum of 12 hours makes up these two units consisting of theoretical and practical work.

CERTIFICATION


Assessment is ongoing by the instructor in respect of the student’s practical skills and there will be multiple choice question paper to answer in respect of their knowledge. A three year certificate will be issued subject to assessment.


AGE LIMIT


Students must be a minimum of 14 years of age and a certificate can be offered to all, subject to assessment. A student cannot assume a responsibility in the workplace for children and infants until they reach the age of 16, and then it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that the student is suitable for that role. The certificate will expire as dated on the certificate, irrespective of age.

  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • Infantile convulsions
  • Control of bleeding and shock
  • Eye injuries
  • Sickle cell anaemia
  • Resuscitation
  • Head injuries
  • Diabetes
  • Foreign bodies
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Heat and cold
  • Fainting
  • Choking
  • Fractures
  • Meningitis
  • Burns
  • Asthma

We also offer a 6 hour Emergency First Aid at Work course with a paediatric bias including childhood illnesses etc.  This is an HSE approved course.

 

An annual 3 hour update as recommended by the HSE is also available.
